Seahawks 0 - Denver 31

I LOVE THE WHITE UNIFORMS!!!!!!!! I love 'em, I LOVE 'EM!!! Look how good that jersey looks on Matt Hasselbeck!! I want one!!

Not to harp away till you're sick of hearing it, but those Bronco uniforms are hideous. I can go along with the blue and orange right down to that stripe on the pants. That stripe is OFFENSIVE!!! :-) I'm so glad the Hawks didn't do THAT to their new uniforms!!!

The game... Well, we've certainly played better games. It was pretty obvious from the start that we weren't putting much stock into winning the game, as we only played our starters for a brief time, and even then there were a lot who sat out resting injuries. Denver also started the game with their second and third strings.

Even so, the game spelled disaster for the Hawks. We held the Broncos to 3 and out on our first defensive series. When Hasselbeck took the field, he threw a short (safe) pass to Koren Robinson for a 4 yard gain. On 2nd and 6, his next pass was tipped and intercepted. Denver's first pass following the INT went to the end zone for a touchdown. With the Hawks down by 7, Antonio Cochran left the field with what was described as a left leg injury. (Note: There's nothing in the papers about it today, so perhaps it's insignificant.)

Following the kick-off, Hasselbeck handed off to Shaun Alexander for a gain of 1. On 2nd and 9, Koren Robinson dropped a pass. On 3rd and 9, Hasselbeck was under pressure, threw a pass, it was again tipped and resulted in an interception.

When our defense took the field, we allowed a first down pass to a wide open Bronco receiver. We then allowed a 23 yard run. The next play was first and goal for the Broncos, and probably would have been a touchdown had the receiver not dropped the ball. Two plays later Portis ran it in for a touchdown. The Hawks were down 14 to nothing and it was still the first quarter.

On 1st and 10 following the kick-off return, Hasselbeck threw the ball out of bounds, not even near a receiver. The next two running plays by Shaun Alexander weren't enough and we were forced to punt. Much to our frustration, the first play by Denver following the punt was a quarterback scramble for 23 yards. That drive also ended in another touchdown by Denver, bringing the score at half-time to 21/0.

Yes, we were playing second team.

So was Denver.

The holes they opened up for running plays were enormous. We weren't getting pressure on the QB, Jarious Jackson who had an exciting first half. Their receivers were wide open. We couldn't get anything going on offense.

Special teams, you ask?! The Broncos had an amazing 65 yard field goal -- SIXTY FIVE YARDS!!! And yet Lindell wasn't able to make a 52 yard attempt. Granted, 52 yards isn't a gimme but it looks bad when a kid trying to make the Broncos team can boot a 65 yarder when a seasoned kicker doesn't get it from 13 yards closer.

It's discouraging.

I don't know what else to say. It doesn't appear to me (speaking only as a fan) that we're prepared for the season. My love for Holmgren hasn't exactly blossomed over the pre-season. I want so much to see the football genius in him but until the excitement level of our game picks up, it's not going to happen. I'm not even asking for a win, at least not in the pre-season. I'm asking for some excitement on the field. We've had conservative Seahawks football for how many years? I'd rather see us open up and risk a turnover or fumble (they're happening anyway!) than to throw another 3 yard pass when it's 3rd and 18. I truly don't understand the game plan that Seattle goes with under Coach Holmgren.

But none of that matters now. The real stuff starts on Sunday against the Raiders! The question is whether or not Mike Holmgren will have our beloved Seahawks ready for the game that counts!

Come on, Coach Holmgren! We're counting on you!

Gooooooooooooo Seahawks!!

If you have comments, send them in and I'll get them posted here!!
