Seattle 9 - Buffalo 38

Unfortunately for us, the first play of the game set the tone for the game. We lost the toss, kicked off to Buffalo and kicked it out of bounds. Buffalo started with excellent field position and the game went downhill from there.

How bad was it? At the start of the second half when Buffalo was supposed to kick off to us, they kicked to themselves. They did an on-side kick and recovered the ball. We didn't stand a chance from that point on.

Major kudos to Ken Hamlin for two interceptions and two returns that showed a desire to make something big happen. What a thrill! Major boo-hisses to our offense who missed opportunities to make anything from the defensive gains.

Speaking of which, WHY was Hasselbeck still in the game when he was hurting so much that he didn't have the strength to stand? Yeah, he's tough. He played through pain. So what? We didn't win. It's certainly not Hasselbeck's fault -- our receivers, namely Darrell Jackson, continued to drop passes that were delivered right to their hands. But Hasselbeck clearly wasn't well. He was visibly limping, and at least once he fell down without anyone touching him when his knee gave out. What benefit to our team is there when we play a quarterback -- or any position for that matter -- who isn't physically able to perform? OK, OK, let's just say for the sake of argument that we wanted to play Hasselbeck out of respect. If he's willing to play, we want him to lead us. Fine. But when the game is clearly out of reach, so much so that Bledsoe heads to the sidelines for the remainder of the game and Buffalo sends in a replacement, why not put Dilfer into the game? The break would give Hasselbeck more time to evaluate and treat his injuries while helping Dilfer come back into form in case he's needed a week or two down the road. It's a win/win situation. I doubt Dilfer could have led a comeback -- we were too far gone by that point in time -- but Hasselbeck wasn't going to get it done. Honestly I don't know if anyone could have.

And what is with the Holmgren/Whitsitt controversy? Is this something our team needs right now? Here we are, still division leaders despite today's loss, and we're publicly squabling over whether or not Holmgren loves Seattle or wants out.

And just when are we going to decide whether or not we want to keep our players whose contracts are about to expire?

I love our Seahawks but we are one dysfunctional team.
