Seahawks 10 - Tampa Bay 6

We dodged a bullet there!! Was the end of the game wild, not to mention unbelievable, or what?!?!?

The score is 10/6 with the Seahawks in the lead. All we have to do to win the game is hold off the Bucs from the game winning touchdown. They've got practically an entire field to cover in just a few minutes. Destiny is in the hands of our defense!

To my fright and dismay, we allow Tampa Bay to march downfield with ease! Once inside the 50, our defense toughens up. A pass is thrown, it hits Rocky Bernard in the hands! If only he'd have caught it!!! The game would have been ours!!! Aaaaauuuuggggghhhhh! We were SO close!

But that's OK because our defense is tough. We only have to hold them out for a minute or two more!! They've got two time outs left so there's still plenty of time. It's going to take a mighty defense to hold them out!

We pressure Simms. He steps back to throw. Trufant steps up and INTERCEPTS THE PASS!!! WE DID IT! WE WON!! WE HELD THEM!!!

Oh wait. What's that? A flag? Aaaaauuuuggggghhhhh! It's a penalty for roughing the passer!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!! It can't be!!! NO WAY!!! TWICE ... we had the ballgame won, only to let Tampa Bay come back for another try!!!

With 1:34 remaining, the Bucs tried again with a new set of downs. Would this game EVER end?!?! Once again we pressured Simms, he stepped back to throw and ... INTERCEPTION BOULWARE!!!! WE DID IT! WE WON!! WE HELD THEM!!! WA HOOOO!!! Third time is a charm!!! WE WON! WE WON!!

But ... wh-wh-what??? Why are the officials huddling? What's going on? BOOTH REVIEW????? What the ... ????

I absolutely could not believe the end to this game! Hours later I still can't believe it!!! I swear there was a script somewhere that said that Tampa Bay MUST win this game, and the officals gave the Bucs every chance they could to polish us off! In the end the script was not meant to be, because our mighty, mighty Seahawks pulled through and WON!!! We are 2-0, on the road no less, ready to bring it on home this week! What a game, what a game!

We had our share of messy moments in the game, and boring moments too as both defenses held the opposition to long, scoreless periods. But I sense something different about the team this year. I'm not feeling that feeling of dread or panic when things don't go our way. It's as if the confidence of the players can be felt from my easy chair at home. When good things happen, it doesn't seem to be luck, it seems to be skill and teamwork. That is the difference I see in this year's Seattle Seahawks! I'm excited for this season to continue!!!

Note: Seahawks.com describes the last plays of the game in very good detail. I've copied part of their article below and encourage you to visit their site to read the game wrap-up in full.

The Seahawks were in game management mode with four and a half minutes to play. Alexander's 1-yard carry was followed by an 8-yard completion from Hasselbeck to Jackson. But Jackson's subsequent carry up the middle was inches short of a first down, forcing the Seahawks' tenth punt of the game.

And that's when it started to get interesting.

Starting at their own 12, the Bucs picked up a quick first down on a 9-yard pass from Simms to receiver Tim Brown. But on the following play Simms' incompletion was negated by a facemask call on Chike Okeafor, good for 15 yards and a first down at the Bucs 45.

The next play saw Simms throw an incompletion that was negated by a defensive pass interference call on Grant Wistrom, good for another first down at the Seattle 46.

Simms then threw an interception and followed with a pass intended for receiver Bill Schroeder that was picked off by Marcus Trufant at the Seattle 35. But a roughing the passer call on Okeafor negated the play and put the ball on the Seattle 31 with a minute and a half to play.

Simms followed with a 5-yard completion to the Seattle 26. But fate finally favored Seattle on the next play when a Simms pass was intercepted by Michael Boulware-his second in two games-to finally slam the door on the Bucs.
