"Confessions Of A Newbie Seahawks Fan!"
by Christopher Olson

It is said that men kick friendship around like a football, and it never seems to crack. There are few things in life that seem harder to come by, than a true friend. Someone who walks in, when everyone else walks out. Somebody who is willing to teach and learn; give and take; play and fight. I have been fortunate enough to find a friend like this: his name is Charles Gordon. I am grateful for all of the things that our coming together has brought about. One of the most FUN things has been my new appreciation for the great game of football, my proper introduction to the legendary Dave Krieg...and the magnificent Seattle Seahawks!!! All of this, thanks to Chuck.

I have lived in Washington for thirteen years. I consider it my home. You could not say that I was a "fair weather Seahawks fan", up until now. The honest truth is, while I always hoped that they would win, the bottom line is that I didn't really care. Since meeting Charlie, all of that has changed.

To say that Chuck "bleeds blue", would be a woeful understatement! A native of Washington, he has been a fierce Seahawks fan since the very beginning. I have been regaled with many happy stories from him: going to games with his Dad, watching on television from home, and his more recent experiences at Qwest Field. His genuine enthusiasm and love for the game itself, and The Seahawks, is infectious, to say the least. I have been swept up in his Seahawks fever, and have no regrets. What an exciting door he has opened up for me! Chuck has taught me so much about football. I couldn't even read some of the game information properly, until he showed me how! His knowledge and spirit are truly impressive, and I have definitely benefited from his tutelage.

Dave Krieg is Chuck's all-time sports hero. The first time I looked at his computer screen, I saw that he had created a Krieg screen saver. I don't remember ever having heard the name Dave Krieg before, but I know it very well now! His deep appreciation for the man, and his remarkable career, is fathomless. It is hard for me to believe that Dave is not already inducted into the NFL Hall Of Fame. In any case, Chuck Gordon certainly belongs in The Seahawks/Dave Krieg Fan Hall of Fame!

Chuck has been prosperous enough to have met Dave Krieg on two occasions. The most recent meeting was in August, at the "Shootout At The Ridge" golf tournament. Several Seahwaks greats were in attendance, including the man himself. Chuck was wearing his Krieg # 17 jersey at the time, and Dave was as gracious and warm, as he was when Charlie first met him in California. If only he had thought to bring a black sharpie and have his shirt signed! Kudos to you Dave, for being so down-to-earth.

As Chuck has already related himself, he was wearing that lucky Krieg jersey at Qwest Field, when he met Donnie; a friend of Dave's, and a very kind man himself. Thank you, Donnie, for giving Chuck the wonderful opportunity to talk to Dave on your cell phone...almost! Leaving a message for his hero, was a priceless treat, and he has mentioned it often since. Thank you, too, to Becky: for her killer Dave Krieg and Seahawks web sites, and for posting Charlie's story, which came straight from the heart.

After the disappointing ROBBERY The Seahawks suffered at Super Bowl XLI, Chuck and I are more gung-ho than ever! We are proud of the team (if not of the game officials). Our boys are CHAMPIONS, and we will be supporting them, through every last game.

It may come as a surprise, but Chuck and I have yet to attend a Seahawks game together. I look forward to that happy day, very much indeed.

I could go on, but that is the meat of it all. I want to wrap up this story, by saying simply this:

THANK YOU, CHUCK! Your buddy loves ya. And one more thing...

GO SEAHAWKS!!! TO VICTORY!!!

Waving the banner now and forever~
