"As good as I felt last week about the offense, that's how disappointed I am
this week."
-- Mike Holmgren after the loss

"That first sack wasn't Pork Chop's fault. A receiver fell down and then I held the ball too long. I should have thrown it away." -- Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck

"We're having a competition with our punters and I've said all along, what I'm looking for is consistency. Which is consistently good. I'm not looking for consistently bad." -- Coach Mike
Holmgren

"We just didn't play well." -- Backup QB Seneca Wallace

"The positive for us is that the defense is coming together
nicely. If they
continue to play hard and continue to do those things, that will be a good thing for
us." -- Coach Mike
Holmgren

"I'm a DB and I've been told from the
very beginning that once something happens like that you've just got to
throw it out the back door. It's out of my mind now. I'm not going to dwell on it.
I'm trying to get
better."
-- Defensive Back Marcus Trufant

"I love special teams, going out there and hitting people."
-- Alex Bannister

"What Alex realizes is that sometimes plays don't happen like you draw it up and you have to be the guy to get open" -- Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Alex Bannister

"I'm trying to learn so much more from veteran players like Chad Brown and Anthony Simmons, even Randall
Godfrey."
-- D.D.

"Quite a spectacle, huh?" -- Mike Holmgren

Exhibition Game 2:
Seattle 7 - Indianapolis 21

Hmmmm.

I didn't see a whole lot to get excited about; then again, it is exhibition season. Maybe they're holding out the good stuff for the games that count?! This certainly didn't hold up to the hype we've been getting from training camp reports but I'm happy to wait it out and see what improvements are made! It isn't about winning this time of the year, nor is it about showcasing the top players. We'll be OK!

Couple of quick notes regarding television coverage... I didn't have any luck picking up the game on Fox. The game showed up on the DirecTV menu however when we tried to select that game we discovered it was not available in our viewing area. Hmpf. Makes a person wonder why we pay extra for Fox Sports.

Ah, but persistence paid off. We still have the old satellite dish in the back yard. Remember those big old things that had permanent mounts in your yard?! Hideous things, I'm telling you! Satellite G2, Channel 16. Free to air, video and audio! YA HOOOO!! I was able to tune in around the half way mark of the first quarter when Hasselbeck was still in the game! It felt SO GOOD to get to see our Seahawks again!!! WA HOOOO!!!

The first offensive series I saw was an incomplete pass, a short run by Alexander, an incomplete pass that nearly was picked off, and a high snap on the punt. Gulp.

We held Indy on their offensive series even though they had great starting position on the drive, however when we got the ball back we were inside the five yard line. Gulp again.

Our first play was a deep pass from the endzone to midfield. It wasn't even close. Alexander got a first down on the next play but the drive fizzled shortly thereafter. Seneca Wallace came in as quarterback on the next offensive series and we had the opportunity to see a lot of new players showcase their talent. It's fun to see the rookies and free agents, isn't it? I always get so excited for them, especially when they make a big play!

Otherwise there's not a lot to cheer about from this particular game but that's OK! It's preseason. We've got time to fine tune our game!

NOW...about those uniforms. I don't like them. Pewter. Gray and white. Submarine blue. Call it what you like but it's about as dull as colors can get. We might as well be wearing beige. We used to have the BEST uniforms in the National Football League!!! I loved the vibrant blue and green of the old logo!! These uniforms remind me of a rainy, gloomy day in Seattle. I kept seeing the bright blue of the Colts, wishing we had our old colors back.

So...that's what I think. Now it's your turn! Send me your thoughts on the game and I'll post them right here!

A little disappointing; but not too bad overall

No serious injuries in our pre-season contest with the Colts. I was a little disappointed by the ball protection errors; but overall I thought the young players did OK. If FB Heath Evans don't crank it up a notch there could be a change at that position. FB Davis looks like a stud blocker, and that is what we look for at that position in the WC offense. GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!

Preseason game two thoughts....

Sitting in a more than half empty RCA Dome last Friday evening in the corner of an endzone watching the supposed “new look” Seattle Seahawks take on the Indianapolis Colts first hand, I made some observations. I have listed them here for no other reason other than to voice my “non-expert” opinion of the evening.

- DOESN’T ANYBODY PUNT ANYMORE? The punting game is… ATROCIOUS! Come on! This was inside a dome. No wind. Turf field……. And the punts from our guys were quite honestly the WORST DISPLAY I HAVE EVER SEEN. I had a good angle from the end zone, too. For every decent punt Williams boots, he SHANKS about 5 others. And maybe the reason Rouen was so good in Denver was because of the thin air.

It’s like choosing the difference between hospital food and airline food. There has GOT TO BE some 40 year old punter out there selling insurance or something that we could get who can punt STRAIGHT in a dome.

I did NOT get to analyze our place kicker because WE NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO GET CLOSE ENOUGH FOR A FIELD GOAL. (more on this later).

Mark my words. The difference between good teams and very good teams is often how reliable your special teams are. I think coverage wise, we are slightly above average, but these kickers WILL hurt us this year sometime. It might cost us the playoffs, it might cost us a division…. But it WILL cost us…

- K-ROB KAN’T KATCH : Koren Robinson has it all. The “gangster rapper” nickname, the attitude, the flashy headgear under his helmet….. All of it means NOTHING if he doesn’t catch the 3 balls he dropped in the first quarter of this game. You want all the attention? Catch the &^%*^ ball! If he is this marquee superstar receiver, it is time to EARN your trip to Hawaii.

Now, I REFUSE to slam the offense. The reason is they were handcuffed the entire first period. When you are constantly starting deep in your territory, you cannot call the same plays when you have some breathing room. You are basically hoping to not turn the ball over and play field position. So, as personally disappointed as I was that the offense could not show their stuff, I felt that the first team simply did not get the chance to play.

While we are on the subject of the offense, I would like to take the chance to say that I am going to miss Walter Jones this year. And so is the rest of the Seahawk team. Thanks Walter, for leaving our LT position (the most IMPORTANT line position to a right handed QB) so shaky. Pork Chop looked like dead meat out there. Granted, Colt DE Dwight Freeney is the best pass rusher no one has heard of in the NFL, but he IS blockable once in a while.

Defensively, I was impressed. There was a lot of swarming to the football going on. The score came after a turnover deep in our territory, and the second score was when Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning connected against our second unit. Oh no, our rookie corner got burned by Harrison and Manning. Who DOESN’T get burned by those two on a weekly basis? I think our defense will NOT be as low as 28th out of 32 teams this year.

As the first quarter ended, the subs started to enter the game, and any analyzing of overall performance went out of the window. So, where was the first unit after one quarter against a team that is looking to jump up from “playoff team” to “Super Bowl team”? Not bad. The score after being dominated in one quarter was only 7-0. It might be 0-0 without a turnover. K-Rob had three drops, and I doubt he drops many more in the game. Alexander was starting to pop nicely through the holes, and we would NOT start EVERY POSSESSION INSIDE THE 10. We were moving the ball. If games were decided after one quarter, then why play FOUR?

So, take heart, my fellow Seahawk fans. One game in Indianapolis does not make or break the season. So, the important thing in this game we needed to happen, happened….

No major injuries to the important starters.
