Breaking Dawn
by Stephenie Meyer

Overview
From the Publisher
It might seem redundant to dismiss the fourth and final Twilight novel as escapist fantasy--but how else could anyone look at a romance about an ordinary, even clumsy teenager torn between a vampire and a werewolf, both of whom are willing to sacrifice their happiness for hers? Flaws and all, however, Meyer's first three novels touched on something powerful in their weird refraction of our culture's paradoxical messages about sex and sexuality. The conclusion is much thinner, despite its interminable length. [...] But that's not the main problem. Essentially, everyone gets everything they want, even if their desires necessitate an about-face in characterization or the messy introduction of some back story. Nobody has to renounce anything or suffer more than temporarily--in other words, grandeur is out. This isn't about happy endings; it's about gratification. A sign of the times?

My thoughts

I think this book may have been my very favorite of the series. The fourth book was excellent, filled with almost too much love story and the right amount of adventure and intrigue.

I have to say, after having read the series, that I don't understand how these books became so popular among adults. A friend of mine says it's the love story that we all wish to experience, and since it can't possibly be real, it's OK to read about and talk about and dream about. I guess I can buy into that!

Anyway, great series. I probably wouldn't recommend the last two books to young teens but older teens will love them. A great read and a lot of fun. Thank you, Stephenie Meyer.

Favorite Passage
It was a surprisingly sensual experience to observe Edward hunting. His smooth spring was like the sinuous strike of a snake; his hands were so sure, so strong, so completely inescapable; his full lips were perfect as they parted gracefully over his gleaming teeth. He was glorious. I felt a sudden jolt of both pride and desire. He was mine. Nothing could ever separate him from me now. I was too strong to be torn from his side.
