Don Camillo meets the Flower Children
by Giovanni Guareschi

Overview
FROM An Independent Reviewer
I've yet to find something written by the publisher, so instead I'll include this independent summary:

Don Camillo is a stubborn Italian Catholic Priest who can bend Iron bars with his bare hands. The only one for miles around who can unbend them, is Peppone, the local Communist Mayor and town Mechanic. Don Camillo and Peppone are old friends, having fought in World War II together. After the war, Peppone became the mayor of a little town near the Po River valley, right in Don Camillo’s parish, where each now find themselves on opposite sides, each being stubborn and pigheaded, but also as lovable as the other, and who get mixed up in plenty of funny situations that are humorous, heartwarming, sad and often instructive all at the same time.

My thoughts
I love the entire series of Don Camillo books. The more I read, the more I love them. It's like watching the first episode of a series and liking it, but by the time you get to the 2nd or 3rd episode you LOVE it because you understand the characters so much better!

These books are sensational! Full of humor, full of surprises, and full of lessons.

Favorite Passage
You really need to know Don Camillo to understand this passage, and when you do, I think you'll fall off your chair laughing!

"Sir," Don Camillo asked, "do you mean to say that the devil is so clever these days that he can dress as a priest?"

"Don Camillo," the Christ reproved him, smiling, "please, I just went through the agonies of the Vatican Council. Do you want Me to go through even more torture?"

"Forgive me, Sir," Don Camillo apologized. "My head is full of wind."
