Queen of the Road The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband and a Bus with a Will of Its Own
by Doreen Orion

Overview
From the Publisher
A pampered Long Island princess hits the road in a converted bus with her wilderness-loving husband, travels the country for one year, and brings it all hilariously to life in this offbeat and romantic memoir.

Doreen and Tim are married psychiatrists with a twist: She’s a self-proclaimed Long Island princess, grouchy couch potato, and shoe addict. He's an affable, though driven, outdoorsman. When Tim suggests “chucking it all” to travel cross-country in a converted bus, Doreen asks, “Why can’t you be like a normal husband in a midlife crisis and have an affair or buy a Corvette?” But she soon shocks them both, agreeing to set forth with their sixty-pound dog, two querulous cats—and no agenda—in a 340-square-foot bus.

My thoughts
There is never a dull moment when Doreen Orion is around! Whether it's wondering whether or not to take her clothes off to check into a nudist RV park or appreciating a really good sunset (fully clothed!), she keeps the story rolling and highly entertaining. If you've ever wondered if psychiatrists self-analyze, you'll have your answers after reading this book!

The places they travel are great fun and quite interesting. The relationship between a husband and wife who are together 24/7 is refreshing. Their learning experience of driving a bus across country is full of adventure! It's just a good book no matter how you approach it! I highly recommend it for a fun and enjoyable read!

Favorite Passage
...for most of the ride through British Columbia we were treated to stunning scenery, ranging from majestic peaks shrouded in mist to more barren vistas reminiscent of the Old West ... to churning rivers fed by waterfalls twisting down mountains like the woven tassels on the white summer Chanel bag I'd left back home. (Do waterfalls ever feel unfashionable after Labor Day?)
