"You can't start a game like we did and expect to win any game. But I was pleased with the effort in the second half."

-- Coach Mike Holmgren

Seahawks 20 - Detroit Lions 28

First and foremost, our prayers go out to Chad Brown, his family and friends. For those of you who don't know, Chad suffered an injury in the game this afternoon and was taken by ambulance from the field. The only report I've heard is that neurological tests came back with positive results which is a tremendous relief. We send Chad our very best wishes for a complete recovery. He's an outstanding player and an incredible person off the field as well. His work ethic and leadership are tops in our organization. Good luck to you, Chad.

In addition to Chad's injury, Fred Thomas broke his right fibula on the opening kickoff of the second half. I'm not sure how long he'll be out but he will be missed greatly and we wish him the best.

It was a day for injuries on both sides of the ball. I'd like to offer our best wishes to Herman Moore who came out early in the game with a bruised knee. I don't know the extent of the injury but it looked severe at the time. We wish him the best.

Ohhhhh, it was a sad game wasn't it? Are you all as emotionally drained as I am?

Ugly is a nice word to describe it. We did just about everything wrong, from fumbling the first pass that led to a Lions field goal, to fumbling a punt that led to a Detroit touchdown, to getting a safety after a bad punt snap, to allowing Kitna to be sacked 6 times (or was it more?), to missing a field goal, to a failed 2 point conversion, to coming away from the game with too many injuries, to dumb penalties.

Detroit didn't win. We lost.

But you know me! I like to find positives so let's jump right to the good stuff! Chad Brown! Two terrific sacks early in the game! I can't speak highly enough for Chad! He's just so awesome!!

Willie Williams! He had his hands on a couple of passes before he pulled in an interception that he ran in for a touchdown!! 40 yards on the play to keep the Seahawks in the game!! Definitely one of the few bright spots today!

How many of you saw LaBounty punching at the ball when he was making a tackle? He wasn't able to knock the ball loose but I loved the effort he put into his tackling even after our spirits were down.

Simmons had some awesome hits! Just incredible!! I was so pleased with him today!

The touchdown from Kitna to Dawkins after a pass interference call was very nice! Did you see the emotion from Kitna? We needed this touchdown so desperately to lift our spirits. I know how happy I was that something good had come from a difficult game! I was happy to celebrate the small victory with our players!

The second touchdown from Kitna to Dawkins was also a very good feeling! The play was pulled off perfectly and it's great to know we can hit Dawkins in the corner of the end zone like that! I haven't looked at the stats for the game yet, but I'm sure the second half tells a different story than the first half.

Who is #19? The NFL.com site says Mike Jenkins but I didn't think that was the name the announcers called. He played on special teams and he was AWESOME! Talk about a speedster!! He got downfield to defend on punt returns so quickly that he had to stop and wait for the ball to arrive! VERY COOL!! If anyone can positively identify him, please let me know so that I can give him credit on this page!

Phillips Daniels also had some great plays, including a sack or two, and for the most part our defense looked very good.

I noticed at one point in time that Coach Holmgren was having some words with Kitna on the sidelines. Personally I thought Jon played very well today. Our line didn't give him any time to throw until the final quarter, and yet he stayed poised and in control throughout the game. I was impressed with Kitna. He didn't get rattled and make bad decisions. I just wish our running game had been better to give Jon more time to develop the offense.

We had two other injuries I haven't yet mentioned. Charles Jordan was injured with what appears to be a hamstring injury, and Dustin Johnson was also helped off the field at one point in time. We hope those injuries aren't serious.

If you take away the 11 points we handed to the Lions, the Seahawks would have won easily despite playing a pitiful game. I'm not sure what that says about us or the Lions but I do know that the season opener was discouraging for all of us.

A word to the fans who attended the game, if I may. THANK YOU for your support. We MUST once again be the #12 that gave Seattle reason to retire a jersey for US!!! I heard boo-birds today in the crowd. I know how frustrating it is to have yet another game like today, filled with so much self-destruction. But please don't give up on the Seahawks after the first game! We DO have great players on our team and we WILL survive with or without Joey Galloway. Coach Mike Holmgren IS the man who will turn our players around! I'm sure of it! Don't despair! Our players need us!

See you all next week at Chicago!! Gooooo Seahawks!!!
