"Normally the young guys are following the leaders. But you look at the play of (veterans) Reggie Tongue, Ken Lucas and those guys; they have elevated their play, in my opinion, partly because of the two young guys." -- Coach Mike Holmgren

"We're going to feed off each other all year." -- Reggie Tongue

"The kid can play." -- Chad Brown, speaking of Ken Hamlin

"If you get a hit by Ken Hamlin that sets the tone, that can do it. It takes one play like that to get everything going." -- Cornerback Willie Williams.

"And the most beautiful thing about it is, we all believe in each other. It doesn't matter what people on the outside think. We're coming to win every game, week in and week out." -- Ken Lucas

"I'm very proud of our team the way they came back against a very good team. That's what we have to do to kind of prove ourselves. We have to play a game like this and win a game like this." -- Mike Holmgren

"I was just trying to catch my breath and stay calm." -- QB Matt Hasselbeck

"The confidence we have now that we can make the plays to win is there and we're only going to get better." -- Guard Steve Hutchinson

"I actually got to pull the baby out and I got to cut the cord. That was my first catch of the day, huh?" -- Shaun Alexander on the birth of his first daughter, Heaven

"This is the biggest win we've had since I've been here." -- DT John Randle

Week 3:
Seattle 24 - St. Louis 23

Talk about a thriller!! I was on the edge of my chair!! What a wonderful victory on the day that Shaun Alexander celebrated the birth of his baby girl, Heaven!

I didn't feel too bad on our first offensive series even though we had to punt the ball, but when we ended up with a touchdown on the bobbled punt, I was ecstatic!! My pre-game nerves vanished, flashes of the first two games appeared, and I thought we were home free!!! It didn't quite work out that way, but in the end we fought back and won! That was such an exciting game! I feel really good about effort on the field! At first things weren't working but we just kept on with it! GOOD JOB, SEAHAWKS!!!

I don't know how most of you are going to feel about Shaun Alexander being late to the game because his wife was giving birth, but I think it's a remarkable thing. Family is important and I like the statement that was made today by allowing Shaun to be there for the birth of his child. I also think it's incredible that he arrived at the game as soon as he could, stepping right into the game and making his presence known immediately! The whole scenario seems to be something Hollywood would create!

I thought Maurice Morris and Mack Strong did wonderful jobs of filling in while Shaun was absent. Big pats on the back to both of them for their skill and just as importantly for their attitudes. It's no wonder Mack Strong was given the Neil Graff Award a couple of years ago! :-)

Know what I saw today that I love? Teamwork. Offense and defense. There wasn't one superstar on the team today. I'm not sure how you'd go about choosing a player of the game because everyone contributed. There were some big plays and some pivitol plays, and certain players may get more attention than others because of those plays, but I think the entire team gets credit today for a job well done.

THIS ... is football!

Here's a copy of an email I sent to my best friend, Bruce, after the game.
.........................
One of the plays that noone seems to be talking about was made by FS Ken Hamlin (I think). It took place on the last drive of the Rams. With less than a minute and needing at least 30 yards to get into long field goal range, Bulger rolled to his left and threw a long spiral to a wide receiver who appeared to be open at the 20 yard line on the right side. The cornerback was unable to catch up to the receiver but Hamlin was about 5 yards away on the inside. Just when the ball was about to be caught by the WR, Hamlin leaped high and, with arms spread high, blocked the WR's view of the pass. The ball went right over his shoulder and fell harmlessly to the turf. There was no contact but it was close. The groans from the Rams fans was audible, even over the roar of the crowd. If not for Hamlins play the WR probably would have caught that pass at the 10 yard line, giving the Rams a short field goal attempt even if he didn't score.

The crowd noise went from fairly quiet in the first quarter to amazingly LOUD in the 4th quarter. There didn't seem to be a letup between plays... just a constant roar. I've never heard anything like it. The tickets we had were in back of the visitors sideline and there were quite a few Rams fans, including two guys sitting next to me.

The Rams had 4 sacks. Hasselbeck spent a lot of time running for his life, occasionally scrambling for yardage. He is getting pretty good at hitting his receivers while avoiding the defense. The running game was absent until Alexander showed up in the 2nd quarter. I had no idea he hadn't started the game until I watched Sportscenter that night.

The Hawks didn't have much of a pass rush. Bulger had all day to throw the ball. There usually wasn't anybody open downfield and he checked off to a receiver over the middle or to the sideline. The Rams didn't have any big plays and it seemed like they should have scored more points. This is a case of the Seahawk defense bending but not breaking. They gave Bulger the short stuff but took away the big plays. It wasn't necessarily pretty to look at but it was effective.

Seahawk stadium is an awesome place. I doubt there is a bad seat in the house. We've got to go back there! Believe it or not, It was difficult for me to enjoy myself being there without you. It broke my heart that we couldn't share that experience. Unfortunately I didn't bring my cell phone with me, thinking that you'd already left for CO. The calls you made on Sunday didn't show up on my phone until Monday.

They won a close one as much on heart as on talent. In a way the Rams outplayed the Hawks for much of the game but, when it counted, the defense came up and made the big plays. The Hawks didn't roll over and play dead. You could feel a change sometime in the fourth quarter when it seemed like the Hawks realized, as a team, that they could actually win this thing. Of course, it was probably my projection. The Rams did everything they could to lose that game. But maybe the Seahawk defense didn't give them many options.

Marshall Faulk didn't make many yards even before he came out of the game with a broken hand. But he makes a difference because you need to account for him. And the Rams have this guy names Leonard Little who was living the the Hawks backfield for most of the game. Until the Hawks figured out how to block him out in the 4th quarter.

I think fans will look back at this game as a defining moment in the franchise history. They say that a lot, don't they? But the personality of the team is developing quickly. They remind me of the Hawks of the mid-80's with the swarming, gang-tackling defense that is playing out of their minds. The pass rush will come in time no doubt. And with the mobile quarterback, powerful RB and speedy receivers make the play calling that much easier.

Even Holmgren was at a loss for words and choked up after the game. But he didn't need to say much.

In two weeks... Green Bay. Then SF at home.

Thank goodness I didn't watch that game

because I did enough damage to my fingernails listening to it via web radio and Gameday updates. Had I not needed to be at work I probably would've had the cops at the house for all the noise eminating from it. Now that was worthy of being called a ride. The kinda of ride that almost makes you wet your pants, but you are so glad you were able to make it. ;-)

What happened??

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the score. Had to work today, but took time to watch the TV's in the patient waiting rooms throughout the hospital every chance I could to catch the scores. First saw the Seahawks were down 14-7. Then, 20-10.

I figured we had lost.
Come home to check the 'Net and found we won by one point.
Awesome! Totally Awesome!
3-0!
That crap Moses told me to eat gave me indigestion, but from now on, I'll drink motor oil if he tells me to.

What A Ride!!!! We Did It!!!!!!!

Here I was... sitting at the end of the third quarter. Seahawks down 23-10. I turn to my two-year old and say, " Okay, Boo. Time to see just what kind of team the Seahawks are going to be this year".....The rest is history!

Some Questions Answered And Progress Made
Posted by Sharpclaw on 9/21/2003, 9:44 pm

QB Hasselbeck showed that he can move the team down the field under pressure in an important game. (Pass to WR Engram and TD pass) WR Robinson showed he can make the clutch passes in a similar situation. (Two big plays on the last drive, and Coach called his number after the penalty on the quick slant for the winning TD) I was surprised to see Coach shake his hand afterwards. Maybe he doesn't hate the young man. I think it would be nice if Coach gave the team some days off during the bye-week after such a thrilling comeback win, being undefeated, and having a two game lead in our division. BUT, Coach is a stickler for hard work, so that probably won't happen.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!

MOSES PREDICTS GAME THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by MOSES on 9/19/2003, 9:50 pm

HAIL TO THEE, O SEAHAWK FANS!!!!! IT IS I, MOSES, HERE TO PREDICT THE SEAHAWK/ lamb GAME!!!!!!

LAST WEEK: The field was hot… The SEAHAWKS WERE HOTTER!!! WE ARE 2-0!!!

Once again, the Seahawks smacked an NFL team in the mouth last week, making statements and taking names…

BUT……..

This week the St. Louis Rams come into town to put up a true test for the boys in blue with their “Greatest Show on Turf”

(ring…..ring…..P.T. Barnum ??? P.T. Barnum ??? Please pick up the white courtesy phone….)

Yes, the offensive juggernaut from St. Louis averaging a whopping… 20 points a game?

If that is an offensive juggernaut, I guess P.T. Barnum was right…. There IS a fool born every minute.

BUT……..

If you think this team ISN’T explosive offensively, you will get FOOLED BIG TIME… Faulk, Holt, Bruce and the rest are still quite an impressive offensive force to be dealt with.

BUT………

Who exactly IS in charge of this offense? Bulger? Warner? PAT HADEN? Each week Martz flips and flops over who to start, leaving his team wondering who IS in charge?

(ring…..ring…..Alexander Haig ??? Alexander Haig ??? Please pick up the white courtesy phone….)

The Rams have quite an owner in Georgia Frontiere, and the Frontiere Era of NFL football in St. Louis has been quite successful…

BUT……..

I WAS able to find some slight chinks in the Ram armor to for your enjoyment. So, here from our office in St. Louis, Missouri comes……….. (drum roll)….

“THE TOP THREE BIGGEST RAM MISTAKES OF THE FRONTIERE ERA”

3. Georgia’s embarrassing lap dance for Dick Vermeil after a Super Bowl victory.
2. The thumbs up Georgia gave the cameras as the Rams drafted… Lawrence Phillips?
1. “As owner of the St. Louis Rams, it gives me great pleasure to announce our next head coach, MIKE MARTZ!”

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR the lambs

1. MARC BULGER: Don’t look over your shoulder… Warner is taking off his headphones!
2. MARSHALL FAULK: A real “Seahawk killer” in the past.
3. TORRY HOLT: Will “mentor” show “student” (K-Rob) up?

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR THE SEAHAWKS:

1. KEN HAMLIN: Who will he dismantle THIS WEEK?
2. MATT HASSELBECK: He will not get by with just an “okay day” this week..
3. KOREN ROBINSON: Will “student” show “mentor” up (see above)?

SO, CAN THEY DO IT?????

MOSES PREDICTS:

SEAHAWKS 34
St. losie lambs 21

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE!!!!!

MOSES
