Chaffey was listed as one of the Best on Ground this week. With the sluggish Tigers' season it's hard to find much news on our boys so I'll take the little bits and pieces I can get.

Chaffey got a brief mention on the Fairfax website:

So, who would be a coach?

Richmond kicked eight goals in the third quarter to Carlton's four. After one goal, the ball was lost in the Richmond cheer squad, which kept possession in a way that was patently beyond its team in the first half. Carlton became sloppy in its disposal and gave away needless free kicks. The happy accidents now befell Richmond. Mark Chaffey slipped as he snapped at goal and the kick skidded off his boot, but Digby Morrell, in turn, slipped in his attempt to clear it, the ball slithering beneath him for a goal. At three-quarter-time, the difference was just 23 points...

I guess at this point we'll take them any way we can get them!!

Hi Becky,
Chaff is still struggling. This is partly because he has not been as good as the last two years and partly because the coaching staff don't seem to know where to play him. Essentially he is a defender, not a forward, but he did start his career in the forward line. I can remember playing him at full forward (?) against West Coast in 1998, we honestly had no one else. However this season he has not been working in defence so they've played him forward a bit. The weird thing is that just as he looks to be going okay there, last week was one case in point, they move him back to defence. It's a strange, dark place the mind of Danny Frawley. Last night it happened again, doing okay on the forward line and winds up back in defence being well beaten. The real reason I wrote this is he kicked this miracle goal last night. We really needed one at the time and he got the ball, threw it on his boot, got slung as he kicked it and it went through with Chaff lying flat on his back! Definitely one for the highlight reel. Hopefully you can find a pick of him lying on his back with unbelieving fists in the air to put on the Carlton game section of the site.

Chris.
