Richmond 5.9.9.108 - Collingwood 3.12.16.115
Hey, it's OK! We may not have come out on top on the scoreboard but we made a decent showing! As far as I'm concerned, it's a fluke that Collingwood won. We were ahead for most of the game and clearly had the momentum through 3 1/2 quarters of play. For a new coach and some young players, that's sensational! We didn't hold on to the lead but we can feel good about the way we played!

The big talk leading up to the match was, of course, the listing of Tambling and Deledio. Both captured headlines following the game and received a lot of enthusiasm and praise in their reviews, with the most positives going to Tambling. I know this has nothing to do with anything, but being American, I wasn't sure of the Australian pronounciation for Deledio. Just gotta say that it's a GREAT name when spoken with an Aussie accent! :-)

I like Terry Wallace! I like his no-nonsense attitude. He appears to know exactly what he wants and I suspect he knows how to get it. From the time he took over at the club he seemed to have a plan and a purpose, and it appears that he's wasting no time with implementation.

The sad news from the game is that we've had one injury already. As I'm writing, the extent of Jay Schulz's injury is yet unknown but we hope for the best for his healing and return to the game!

Subject: Well we lost, but we had fun doing it!

Hi Becky,
I just got home from the game and I promised you an email so here we go.

The good things: we have a game plan! It's a good one too, it may not win us many games to begin with while they all get used to it, but it's a lot more enjoyable to watch than the old negative, chip it around the boundary, flood back in defence, minimise damage game that we've been playing for the last few years.

We've struck gold with the two top draft picks: Deledio and Tambling, especially Tambling, this kid is excitement in human form.

Brent Hartigan and Tom Roach, two really good young players who seem to set to prove that their good debut form last year was not just a fluke.

Simmonds will be a more than adequate replacement for Ottens.

We managed to put more than 100 points on the board.

The bad things: our defence, it's weak, inept and undersized.

Darren Gaspar, if you can pin the loss on one player he would be it. Even with a paycut we're still paying this guy about $400,000 a season and that's $300,000 too much and I'm being very generous there.

We still, and this goes for the young blokes as well, have problems hitting targets by foot and hand. Until they get this right we'll lose more games than we win.

We lost. We let a good lead slip and lost the game, mostly for the reasons above.

That's pretty much all I can come up with at this late hour.

Chris.
