Richmond V Sydney
Swans MCG Round 10

By Chris Greenway

As seems to be common these days Collingwood dominated the media. A spat between the Magpies and Port Adelaide about alternative strips was in the media every day, that and the surprise sacking of ruckman Matthew Capuano by St Kilda. Anything written about the Richmond V Sydney game was about injuries to players. Stafford and Coughlan were expected to play, Campbell was not, but he was still named. Hall took his place in the actual game. Richmond started off well and with obvious intent to throw off the Subiaco curse. A classical Tivendale goal and a steal by Zantuck with Richo looking dangerous had the Tigers roaring. Sydney took the initiative from that point and apart from a brief comeback during the third quarter the Tigers never really looked like winning. They were surprisingly lackluster. A lot of it can be attributed to playing a West Australian team in Western Australia the previous week. Richmond the latest victim of this season's peculiarity. It was not lost on me that both Stafford and Coughlan did not play in the Subiaco game and both were far more lively than many of their teammates that did play in the West. It was a quiet night for Rodan with long periods spent on the bench, he had 10 touches and a couple of tackles. Not a game he'll remember. If the Tigers and D-Rod want to beat the Kangaroos and play finals football this year then they need to rediscover the passion before Friday night.
