"Every week so far we've got a little bit better..."

That's what Terry Wallace says about our Tigers after the victory this weekend! He's right, you know!

I went into this game skeptical. I wasn't convinced we could beat Freo; I wasn't even convinced we could put in a respectable appearance. When you get beat like we did in Round 1, it's easy to be pessimistic even after a couple of wins. The media says you shouldn't win, so you sort of adopt that attitude. Thank goodness the boys didn't fall for it!

Being 4 goals and a point up at quarter time felt pretty good! I had the 3AW audio feed, and Rex Hunt was telling us that Simmonds "stands 6'9" with the strrrrrength of a Greek god!!!" I was falling out of my chair laughing!

We were comfortably ahead the entire game, and I'm proud of our boys for keeping up the play instead of becoming complacent with the lead. I'm looking over my notes as I write this, and I didn't realize until now that Freo only scored one point in the 3rd period. One behind and that's it. I'm a novice footy fan of course, but I don't recall seeing a quarter go by with only one point scored. No wonder the Dockers had their hands on their hips, waiting for the siren so they could leave the stadium. That's a discouraging quarter of play.

Of course Richo got a lot of praise for his play, but honestly it was a team effort that got the job done. If you look at the first quarter, Knobel, Brown, Coughlan, Simmonds, and Deledio were instrumental in setting up the lead. There's a lot less pressure on the rest of the team once you have a bit of cushion and a good team, read Richmond, will capitalize on that!

Wallace warns us, "I don't think by any stretch of the imagination we should be getting ahead of ourselves."

Keeping that in mind, I'm excited for next week's game!

Incidentally, we have a late afternoon game next week which means it comes on at my 2am. No matter how much I love my footy, I can't make it awake from 2-5am! Good luck to our boys, and I'll find out the score when I wake up the next day!
