Sept. 29, 2007 - San Francisco, CA Dear Diary, Happy Birthday to Ashley, my youngest who is 19 today!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Oops, sorry. Did I just fall asleep?!?!? My, oh my, what a whirlwind tour this is! This morning we headed to the Wharf. K&C dropped off Pat and me and they set off for the cemetery. Pat and I headed to Pier 33 to buy tickets to Alcatraz. Unfortunately they were sold out for today and tomorrow. BUMMER!
There were a couple of people selling, er, scalping, tickets on the street so we debated buying them. I wasn't sure how we knew they were real. The tickets are $25 a pop at the ticket booth; $40 on the street. Ouch. Pat and I were hemhawing around trying to decide what to do when we came across another guy selling them, so I went up to him and asked him how we knew they were real. He was a really nice guy, or so it seemed, and he said they're definitely real, that's how he makes his living. Huh? You can do that? He said he went to Yale and now he buys out tour tickets and sells them at a mark-up to visitors. Says he made $150,000 last year, tax free! His name is Terry, he's going to Africa soon, he's not married (I asked!), and he gave me a big bear hug. Well yeah, duh, of course we bought the tickets from him! He gave me a bear hug! |
