Sept. 29, 2007 - San Francisco, CA While waiting for the tour, Pat and I walked to Pier 36 for breakfast/lunch. I let him pick the place and he chose a hole in the wall fish-n-chips joint. I can't recall what Pat had but I had the shrimp basket which was 4 breaded shrimp and fries. They were quite possibly the best shrimp I've ever had! YUM! They were fantastic! Then we walked back to Pier 33 and caught the boat to Alcatraz. Turns out the tickets were legit, thank you Terry, I never doubted you. Ahem.
The boat ride was pleasant except for the bazillion flies, and the tour was phenomenal. We walked around the island and then went on the audio tour of the cell block. It was quite long, almost too long, but very well done. It was amazingly interesting and we learned all kinds of crazy things. The view from the island is spectacular. I felt we definitely got our $40 out of it. The weather was perfect, Pat was terrific company and it was a very nice outing. K&C picked us up at the pier and we headed off on a driving tour. Craig drove us down Lombard Street - EEKS! It was very scary and scenic and beautiful and I'm so glad we did it. I would NEVER try to drive it myself. We went to Golden Gate Park and toured the Japanese Gardens, which were sort of disappointing but I hope we got some good pictures anyway.
