Pre-season Evaluation

“I think we have a good football team. I believe we have the talent to do it. I have high expectations for our football team. I like this team a lot. They’re a fun group of guys and they’re very unselfish. That’s one of the reasons I came back another year. I really like this group of guys and we’re going to go out and do the best we can and make this a special last year. After that I will reflect on coaching.”

“I have a better knowledge of the guys playing tight end for us. It will be a very competitive thing on offense, at the running back, tight end, and wide receiver. I think our line is pretty much settled in there.”

“Defense is so much emotion that there shouldn’t be that much of a difference and last year we had too much of a difference,” Holmgren said. “If we can fix that and be more consistent on the road and continue to play the way we do at home defensively, and you can say the same for offense, but there’s more emotion on defense, they could be up in the top five. We are capable of playing very good defense.”

Quotes by Mike Holmgren

"He is as talented a fullback as I've ever had." - Referring to Leonard Weaver

"I believe we’re talented enough to make a run at this. Injuries can’t be an excuse. I want their minds right. So, we set our goals very high. But it hasn’t been that much different than the last four or five years. We developed a team that’s a playoff caliber team, in my opinion, and then you need a little good fortune to get all the way there.” - prior to our opening game

“What I’d like to do is learn from this game. Write it off a little bit, but learn from it, study it." - After the loss in Week 1

"We made the decision, Kathy and I, to come back one more year. And I'm at peace with that. The one thing that I absolutely know is that I did the right thing." - After the loss in Week 1
